5 Things You Need to Make A Kid's Fairy or Gnome Garden

While we were at Dollar General yesterday, we saw that the tiny garden ornaments were on sale for half off, which made them each 50 cents (SCORE!) Cole really liked the dogs, camper and gnomes so I let him pick out a bunch, figuring we could make a fairy garden. "Aren't those for girls?" - my husband. NO! This is a GNOME garden. Totally different. Anyway kids will love to make a cluttered mess. I got the galvanized tin for $5, the rocks were $1 and the pebbles were $2. We already had some soil at home and I didn't plan on putting any plants in because boys. He will crush it so no thanks.

1. Tin/bucket/planter
Get creative - I've seen some really cool kiddie pool dinosaur gardens but that's a bit large for us.

2. Doo-dads
Fairies, gnomes, dogs, dinosaurs etc.

3. Rocks
Obviously, you can use rocks you have around the house but these were $1

4. Pebbles
We had clear ones at home but how boring. We HAD to have colorful ones. I tried to make a path but Cole was going for a more artistic approach.

5. Dirt or soil
I had a partial bag of potting soil I won't use this year so we used that but if you have dirt you can dig up in your yard for free, use that! Kinetic sand would be really cool too!

As you can see, we had a lot of fun picking out the doo-dads so our garden is a bit cluttered. I offered to put some in my planters but that was not a great idea according to Cole. Oh well! It is his masterpiece after all! They were only 50 cents each so I let him get whatever he wanted. All in, we spent about $14 but could have done it for less with some supplies from around the house.
