Coat Hanger Butterfly Craft Kids Will Love

Check out these butterflies! They were so fun to make for only $5 for both with supplies you can buy at Dollar Tree. You could make it even easier for kids by not spray painting and just using the colored hangers. I took a ton of pictures so beware! lol It should be very easy to follow along but let me know if I forgot any details.

You'll need:
Coat hangers - the large butterfly I made used adult hangers and the small butterfly used small hangers
Solar lights
zip ties
scissors
optional spray paint = I used Rustoleum oil rubbed bronze and a dull aluminum spray. I wanted bright colors but we were out and I try to use what we have.
Okay, I'm going to get super technical here. To start, mark a "heart" with the hanger pieces like this.
Add zipties to the "heart" to hold it together and to the other side. Now you have one wing.
Make your other wing just like the first one and add zip ties.
Now you'll connect them in the center with two more zip ties.
Cut your zip tie tails and you should have a butterfly like this. You can bring it outside and spray paint it or leave it as is. Of course, I chose to spray paint one oil rubbed bronze and dull aluminum.
After I was done spray painting, I went to Dollar Tree and they happened to have a black solar light and a silver one - how perfect is that?! I wasn't sure yet if I wanted to add them or not but then I couldn't pass it up. It was meant to be. I used two zip ties on each solar light to attach it to the center of the butterfly. I removed the plastic ground stake (it popped right out.) I attached one zip tie just below the light part and and the other centered at the next intersection.
This is not exactly where they are going to live on the fence. We are still one the fence (get it!) about exactly where they should be placed.
Here they are all lit up at night and glowing! Are you going to make one now? So easy, am I right?

    1. Yes! So fun! One of the lights still lights up at night since we made ours in July but one took a tennis ball throw and doesn’t work. I’ll have to replace once they have them again!
