5 Ways to Play with a Blanket

Free play ideas that are fun? Sign us up! We love pretending we are superheros, making forts and having picnics - all with a simple, little bit worn blanket! Do your kids LOVE their blankets? I had one I took all over town when I was little. Cole has his airplane blanket he can't sleep without but hasn't been taking it places anymore. During my zoom meetings, I made a blanket fort one day and it was a big hit. He quietly played for a few hours.

1. Superhero cape
Who doesn’t want to be a cape-wearing superhero? Tie blankets around as capes and prepare to save the world! Pretend to fly and stop crime.

2. Picnic
Have a picnic with dolls or teddy bears. Pack a lunch and spread your blanket out on the grass. If it’s raining, have an indoor picnic. It’s still fun! At our picnics, everyone needs to have their own drink and snacks.

3. Fort
Make a blanket fort. Read in the fort with flashlights and snuggle up. Take a nap in the fort? Yeah, right. Play in the fort is more like it.

4. Parachute
Send a stuffed animal flying in the air. Try not to let him fall! You’ll each need to take an end and lift the blanket at the same time to pop the animal up in the air.

5. Ghost or Monster
Throw the blanket over your head and walk around making ghost or monster noises. Try to catch the others! Warning: There will be lots of bonking into objects, laughing and falling!

Do you have any creative ways you use a blanket?
