1. Self-care
I recently posted 5 ways to practice self-care and it is something I’m trying to be more aware of so I make a conscious effort. It truly does reduce stress just by slowing down even if it is only for 5 minutes. Do something you want to do and you will feel less stressed. I like to do a sudoku puzzle, drink a cup of tea or listen to my book.
2. Listen to music
Everyone has their own playlist they listen to but did you know music can help reduce anxiety and stress? Music has been shown to improve sleep, blood pressure and heart rate. We play music for Cole before every nap and bedtime. He is unable to fall asleep without his lullabies.
3. Talk to a friend
When you’re stressed out, being able to call upon a friend for emotional support will help reduce stress. Getting something off your chest instead of bottling it up will make you feel like a huge weight has been lifted. Enlisting the help of a friend makes you feel loved and we all need that.
4. Go for a walk
Get outside and get some fresh air. Exercise produces endorphins and fresh air is good for your mental and cardiovascular health. Sometimes it's nice to just take five minutes and go for a walk by yourself. I know when I have the little guy on a walk, it is not as relaxing to try to keep him on track and focused. If you're able to, try to get in a quick walk by yourself.
5. Do something nice for someone else
Have you ever paid for a coffee for the person behind you? Have you ever given a compliment that made a stranger’s day? It gives you a warm fuzzy feeling and helps to increase happiness. Even buying a pair of $1 socks for a friend because they remind you of her. It will make her day, which will in turn, make yours.
