No green thumb required. I do not have a green thumb. My intentions are always good. I hate weeding. It takes so long. We didn’t get rain for a month and I have to say I did pretty good watering them every day almost everyday. Thankfully, it has rained the past 3 days and we got A LOT so maybe I won’t have to water for a bit. Here are some easy plants that require very little maintenance and aren’t too picky about where in the yard they’ll be placed. I'm in New England so these are all appropriate for our zones. You may have to check yours to see if they will be fine. Since these plants are all hardy and easy to grow, they'd be great for kids to plant and help take care of. They will be so proud of their work. Cole picked out the coreopsis in a 6 pack and it's doing AWESOME! He loves to walk by it and see the new flowers. My husband bought these whiskey barrels made or plastic at our local hardware store but here's an amazon affiliate link:

1. Hostas
Hostas are hardy and can grow in full shade. You can chop them up, replant them and move them around and they always seem to do well. There are a lot of different varieties too and we just love the variegated ones.
2. Lilies
Orange lilies used to line the front of my house but we put a deck in. We replanted some across the street and they took off right away. One lone lily was left behind in a pile of dirt behind our shed and started to grow! They may not look it but they are very easy to grow and do not care about their soil. They do well in full sun, partial sun or light shade. Plus they grow tall! They are great as a border or in the back of a garden. You can easily transplant these without hurting them. They come in a ton of varieties and colors but I just love the orange ones!
3. Black Eyed Susan
These beauties are drought resistant. They grow in full sun or partial shade and they spread. These are one I'm going to grow over by the river. We have a steep slope and want some plants to brighten and add roots to the soil so it doesn't wash away.
4. Coreopsis
This beautiful flower tolerates almost any soil. It comes in many colors. Cole picked out some white ones and they are doing VERY well in a planter that we have with just plain old cheap bagged soil. I think I'll get more of this next year to put by the river. I think they are going to fill the whole planter next year and I won't have to buy any more! haha.
5. Black mondo grass
Okay, I have never grown it but this grass is resistant to rabbits and deer. It can grow in the sun or shade and requires very little maintenance. I'm sure the black would add a neat pop here and there in a garden!
Do you have any plants you love because they require next to no maintenance?
